Beamed into Adelaide from some unknown corner of the cosmos, the gentle giants of Airship Orchestra come in peace to share a song of spaced-out serenity.
Evoking the wonder of Hayao Miyazaki, these larger-than-life inflatable figures invite visitors of all ages to become immersed in their world of sound and light. With a musical score and light show that unfolds across your visit, the installation blends choral voices and otherworldly sounds to create an evolving soundscape as you become acquainted with each of the orchestra’s 16 unique characters.
As our lives on Earth grow ever louder and more chaotic, Airship Orchestra is here to coax us beyond our own experience and share in a more blissful, playful reality. You might get the feeling of being watched as tiny LED eyes follow you through the installation, but don’t be frightened – they’re just as curious about us as we are about them.
Created by Melbourne studio ENESS, Illuminate Adelaide will be Airship Orchestra’s next Australian encounter after visits to Washington, DC and Xintiandi, Shanghai.
