During Illuminate Adelaide 2026, FUTUREJUICE brings together an exhibition that celebrates the creative possibilities from the techno-verse. Automation Bias exhibits innovative artworks that incorporate modern mechanics and robotics.
Automation Bias is a theory long used to critique blind reliance on machines and computerised systems. Similar thoughts and concerns have recently been prevalent resulting from the tech advancements of the previous 5 years, particularly in AI and humanoid robotics. Many of these concerns hold a narrow perspective that blames technology & algorithms in positioning humans as victims of 'humanity deficit' and 'brainrot'. The exhibition for Illuminate Adelaide will bring together an exciting mix of local, interstate and international artists, including feature commissions from leading new media artists as well as key robotic artworks that have marked tech-art history.
Expect an engaging program of events, tour, talks, cinema clubs and workshops.

Marian Sandberg is driven by a need to feel human. Through multidisciplinary arts practice, she explores what being human feels like in a world where technological systems continually shift and normalise new ways of being. By creating quirky new technologies that sit at the edge of the societal norms they shape and uphold, Sandberg offers opportunities to consciously engage with and reshape the technologies that shape us.

Founded in 1997, ENESS is a multi-award-winning art and technology studio. The multidisciplinary team explores the intersection between the virtual and the physical world in the creation of temporary and permanent interactive public art. Pioneers of new media art, ENESS artworks combine sculpture, textiles, design, furniture, software development, music and story. Led by Artist and Founder Nimrod Weis, the team delves into the deeper potential of interactivity to form emotive responses from audiences and how to make art appeal to people of all ages and backgrounds. The studio’s style of work seduces viewers to get closer and experience unexpected curiosities, taking digital art installations out of the gallery and into the realm of public space.

Stelarc (b.1946, Cyprus) is a performance artist who has tested and pushed the limits of the human body for over fifty years. His performances and installations explore themes of the post-human and the trans-human using prosthetics, robotics, biotechnology and virtual reality systems. Stelarc's work has shaped new media art history, with leading institutions such as ZKM (Germany), stating his works such as Third Arm are "new media art masterpieces".

EJ Son is a multidisciplinary artist working across sculpture, installation, ceramics and writing. Their practice uses provocation and humour to interrogate power structures in gender, sexuality and race. Through paradox and tension, Son’s work disrupts ingrained binaries, creating space for new subjectivities and emotional registers.

James Dodd is an artist who works across a wide range of mediums. He is interested in the splashes of creativity that can be found in public spaces, especially suburbia. This has many manifestations, from simple paintings to strange contraptions or sculptures that look like they have been “home-brewed in the garden shed”. Painting has always been a core part of his practice, though James’ paintings are often created with the use of mechanic and built structures.
